This begins with keyword research-- knowing what users type into search engines when they want to find the website. This also includes SEO strategy and measurement. Tracking the number of inbound links plus gaining new ones. Checking to make sure all the pages are indexed on search engines.
Finally, adding new content to continue to grow user experience and inbound links.

Open Austin Site Illegible in FireFox - Simple CSS Fix
I love the OpenAustin concept! However, the site is completely illegible in FireFox due to the use of alpha color definitions. The CSS includes the * hack to provide an IE option, but does not include a fallback option for other browsers that don't support RGBa. The fix is straight forward... Existing definition excerpt from panel-3883.css (STRUCTURE section):
body, td, th, div, li, p {color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.7);*color:#BCCAD0;}
Fallback definition syntax supporting forward compatibility:
body, td, th, div, li, p {color:#BCCAD0;color:rgba(255, 255, 255, 0.7);}
The * hack will no longer be needed, browsers that do not support the RGBa will fallback on the HEX definition while those that do support RGBa will pick it up as an overriding definition.
The site is great when it can be read!

Add your comment for Idea: Some other scheme for text inputs and textareas than white on light teal?LIght grey on light teal in text inputs and white on light teal in textareas is aesthetically pleasing, yes, but very difficult to read in this type size due to lack of contrast. Please use a darker background color, or a lighter background color and black text for this class.
(The white on dark blue with light drop shadow is fine, at least for my eyes. :)

Market the site on the City Trash Cans
2 comments for Idea: Market the site on the City Trash CansPrint stickers for the city trash/recycle cans which include the URL and Twitter address. Include some of the features of the site--such as the pay your bills online idea posted on this site. The cost would be nominal and everyone in the city would have the address handy.
